Pipe Cleaner Flowers

Please Note: All Instructions are based on 12" Pipe Cleaners
So if instructed to use 1/2 that would be 6" a 1/4 would be 3"

Daisies

The Daisy
The Daisy is your Basic Pipe Cleaner Flower from this you can make all kinds of others by just changing 1 or 2 steps, the colors or the length of your pipe cleaners.

The step by step instructions given here are for a larger daisy because it's usually easier to learn something when it's bigger

For Smaller Daisies 

Follow same steps using 1/4 (3") Pipe Cleaners

You will need: 5 White Pipe Cleaners 6" (1/2) 2 Green Pipe Cleaners 6" (1/2) 1 Yellow Pipe Cleaners 6" (1/2)

Gather the white and yellow together going one way and 1 green going the other direction overlapping 3/4 of an inch

Wrap these with wire or string.

Twist or tie off wire/string making them secure

Use the other green pipe cleaner to cover the wire

Continue down until all the white and yellow pipe cleaners are covered

Spread out the white and yellow pipe cleaners like a starburst

Roll the yellow pipe cleaner towards the center

Continue rolling as tight as possible until it's in the center.

You will need 6 white pipe cleaners 3" (1/4) 1 green pipe cleaner 6" (1/2)

Use 5 white pipe cleaners and instead of a different color center, bring the green stem further into the flower area

Secure with wire or string but for this one cover the wire with the last white pipe cleaner

The white extends the base of the flower

Spread out the white pipe cleaners and roll the green one down into the center

I rolled a full length 12" green pipe cleaner to make the leaves for the violet plant.

Tack with a little glue as you go so it doesn't unroll

Daffodils

You will need: 6 Yellow Pipe Cleaners 6" (1/2) 2 Green Pipe Cleaners 6" (1/2) 1 Orange Pipe Cleaner 6" (1/2) Wire or String and Glue

Arrange the 6 yellow pipe cleaners in one direction and one green the other way. In this one the green is just far enough to secure it. wrap with wire or string

Wrap the other green pipe cleaner to hide the wire or string

Separate the yellow pipe cleaners into a starburst

Roll the yellow pipe cleaners towards the center as tight as possible

Continue with all of them and set aside

Roll the orange pipe cleaner just a couple of times

Then continue to roll it around your little finger so ...

When you remove it, it makes a little bowl

You will Need: 3 Pink Pipe Cleaners 1 Green Pipe Cleaner Wire or String

Cut both the Pink and Green pipe cleaners in 1/2

Cut just the Pink ones in 1/2 again so you have 12 total

Place them all together with 1 of the green ones in the center

Larger Roses

For larger Roses follow the same instructions as above 

Except:

  • Use 1/2 length pipe cleaners instead of 1/4's

  • Use a folded green pipe cleaner for the stem so it is sturdier and wrap the entire stem to hold them together and to add more strength

You will need 1 Purple Pipe Cleaner 12" 1 green pipe cleaner 6" (1/2) A Pencil and Needle Nose Pliers

Line up the green pipe cleaner next to the pointy end of the pencil

Starting at about 2" down the pencil wrap the purple pipe cleaner around both the pencil and the green pipe cleaner

Honestly I struggled with shaping this one

For the buds/sprouts/new growth I simply use 4 scrap red pipe cleaners folded in half and wrapped them in a green pipe cleaner

You will need 12 Red Pipe Cleaner 4" (1/3) 1 Red Pipe Cleaner 12" 2 Green Pipe Cleaners 12" Wire or String

Fold the 12 Red 4" pipe cleaners in half

Place the green pipe cleaner in the center. Line it up with the OPEN end of the red ones. Stem goes down from the closed (Loopy) end

Gather them all together withe the green in the center and wire together tightly 1/2" down

Use the full red pipe cleaner to cover the wire. Wrapping your way to the end

These tulips were not my favorites. I struggled with them to make the look right and still fell short. The sprouts helped a little. I did try to make them bigger using 1/2 stems. Didn't improve the tulips BUT ....

Pipe Cleaner Open Tulip

If you don't bend the red ones in all they way, it makes something somewhere between a Gerbera Daisy and a Spider Mum. Which is kind of cool. Maybe I'll try it with different colors, a brown center ???

Sunflowers

Add a couple of Sunflowers to a dollar store vase, a little bit of raffia and a couple of sticks and you have an inexpensive centerpiece that makes a large statement.

Starting in the center. Weave another black in an over under pattern. Adjusting the starburst as you go

Continue adding more black pipe cleaners as you go, until it is about 3"-4" round
